Connecting Procore takes two steps in Procore and one in Specset. A Procore company administrator installs the Specset app and chooses which projects it can reach, then someone in your Specset organization connects the two. If you are not the Procore administrator, send them this page.

Once Procore is connected, choose what syncs on [Procore sync settings](https://docs.specset.com/docs/procore).

## Before you start

- In Procore, you need **Admin** permission on the company-level **Directory** tool. Procore only lets company administrators install apps.
- In Specset, you need access to **Org Settings → Integrations**.
- Organizations in CUI mode cannot connect Procore.

## Install the Specset app in Procore

Specset is installed as a custom app, using an App Version ID instead of the Procore Marketplace.

1. In Procore, go to the company level, open the **Apps** menu in the upper right, and click **App Management**. It is also listed under **Company Settings** in the company **Admin** tool.

2. Click **Install App**, then **Install Custom App**.

3. Paste the Specset App Version ID and click **Install**:

   ```
![The Procore Install App dialog with the Specset App Version ID entered and the Install button](https://docs.specset.com/images/docs/procore-setup/app-version-id.png)
4. Review the permissions Procore lists for the app and click **Install** again to confirm. If Procore offers to create a configuration, you can **Skip** it; it is covered under [Enable the Procore sidebar](#enable-the-procore-sidebar).
Specset now appears under **Installed Apps**. Installing it creates a service account for Specset in your company Directory. That account is what Specset reads and writes through, and it cannot reach a project until you permit one in the next step.
## Give the app access to your projects
1. In **App Management**, click **View** next to Specset and open the **Permissions** tab.
2. Under **Permitted Projects**, open **Select Projects**, select every project you plan to use with Specset, and click **Add**.
![The Permissions tab of the Specset app in Procore, with the Project Level Permissions table on the left and the Permitted Projects selector and list on the right](https://docs.specset.com/images/docs/procore-setup/permitted-projects.png)
Each permitted project is listed below the selector. On those projects the service account gets the access shown under **Project Level Permissions**:
- **Admin** on the tools Specset syncs: Submittals, RFIs, Documents and Document Management, Specifications, Drawings, Daily Log, and Photos. Standard access is not enough to see pending daily log entries or to publish.
- **Read-Only** on the **Directory**, so people on records can be matched to Specset users.
Projects created later are not permitted automatically. Add each new project here before you link it in Specset.
## Connect Procore in Specset
1. In Specset, open **Org Settings → Integrations** in the organization sidebar.
2. Click **New**, choose **Procore**, and click **Connect**.
3. Sign in to Procore when its window opens and approve the access it asks for. If your Procore account belongs to more than one company, pick the company where the app is installed.
![The Add Integration dialog listing Procore, Procore Sandbox, and Autodesk Build with a Connect button for each](https://docs.specset.com/images/docs/integrations/add-integration.png)
The integration appears in the list with its status. Next, [link each Specset project](https://docs.specset.com/docs/integrations#link-a-project) to its Procore project, then set up syncing on [Procore sync settings](https://docs.specset.com/docs/procore).
A **Procore Sandbox** option is also offered for trying the integration against a Procore sandbox company. It behaves exactly like the production connection, but a sandbox company installs the app with its own App Version ID:
```

## Enable the Procore sidebar

The Specset app includes a side panel that opens Specset inside the Procore Submittals tool, next to the record you are looking at:

- On a submittal, it shows that submittal's Specset review. If the submittal has not been imported yet, it offers **Import to Specset**.
- On the Submittals list, it shows the project's submittals in Specset.

Turn the sidebar on with an app configuration:

1. In **App Management**, click **View** next to Specset and open the **Configurations** tab.
2. Click **Create Configuration**.
3. In **Projects**, select the projects that should have the sidebar, or tick **Global Projects Config** to include every active and future project.
4. Enter a **Title**, such as Specset, and click **Create**.

![The Create Configuration dialog in Procore with Global Projects Config ticked and Specset entered as the title](https://docs.specset.com/images/docs/procore-setup/create-configuration.png)

To use it, open a submittal in one of those projects and click the Specset icon in the dock on the right edge of the page. The icon only appears once the project has a configuration; reload the page if it is not there right after you create one.

![A submittal open in Procore with the Specset icon in the side panel dock at the top right edge of the page](https://docs.specset.com/images/docs/procore-setup/sidebar-dock.png)

Sign in to Specset inside the panel the first time. The panel follows you as you move between submittals, and **Open in new window** in its header opens the same page in a full browser tab.

The sidebar works for Procore projects that are linked to a Specset project, and each person needs their own Specset account with access to that project.

## Update the app

When Specset releases a new version of the app, for example to sync another Procore tool, Procore marks it **Update Available** in **App Management**.

1. In **App Management**, click **View** next to Specset.
2. Click **Update App** in the upper right, review the changes, and click **Update**.
3. Reload the page, open the **Permissions** tab, and add your projects under **Permitted Projects** again.
4. If you use the sidebar, open the **Configurations** tab and [create the configuration](#enable-the-procore-sidebar) again.

![The Specset app page in Procore showing the Update Available badge beside the app name and the Update App button in the upper right](https://docs.specset.com/images/docs/procore-setup/update-app.png)

Procore clears both the permitted projects and the app configurations whenever an app is updated. Projects stop syncing and the sidebar icon disappears until they are added back. The **Permitted Projects** list can still look complete right after the update; it shows as empty once the page is reloaded.

## Troubleshooting

- **A Procore project is missing when you link or import.** The project is not under **Permitted Projects** for the Specset app. Add it and try again.
- **Syncing stopped or the sidebar disappeared after an app update.** Re-add the projects under **Permitted Projects** and create the configuration again; see [Update the app](#update-the-app).
- **Nothing syncs after connecting.** Check that the app is installed in the same Procore company you picked when connecting, then use **Reconnect** in the integration's row menu.
- **The Specset icon is not in the side panel.** The project has no app configuration. Add it on the **Configurations** tab, then reload the page.
- **The sidebar stays on "Waiting for Procore context".** The installed app is older than v0.18.0. [Update the app](#update-the-app).
- **The sidebar says the project is not connected to Specset.** Link the Procore project to a Specset project first.
