# Ask the project — Q&A chat

> Ask plain-language questions from anywhere in the project and get source-cited answers drawn from your conformed source of truth.

Open **Chat** in the project sidebar to start a conversation. The **chat bubble in the upper right** also opens chat while you work elsewhere in the project. Ask in plain language and follow the references back to your project documents.

- **Ask about any part of the project** — square footage, material lists, quantity counts, schedules.
- **Run chats in parallel** — start a new question while another is still thinking, then come back to the first.
- **Inspect the evidence** — click a citation in an answer to open the supporting document or record.
- **Find chats by what they produced** — **Chat → History** has search, a **Has artifacts** filter, and per-chat artifact counts, so the conversation behind a deliverable is easy to find. Outputs themselves live in [Artifacts](https://docs.specset.com/docs/library).

## From an answer to a deliverable

Keep working in the same conversation when an answer should become something the team can use. For example, ask for the concrete quantities shown on the structural sheets, then ask the agent to build an estimate from those quantities. Review the measurements, assumptions, and pricing in the resulting [estimate](https://docs.specset.com/docs/estimates).

## Revisit a conversation

Open **Chat → History** to return to an earlier question, inspect its references, or continue work on an artifact it produced.

## Dictate a message

Use voice dictation when speaking is faster than typing, whether you are at your desk or walking the jobsite.

1. Click the waveform **Dictate** button in the message composer.
2. Speak while the red timer is running.
3. Click **Stop dictation**. Specset transcribes the recording and adds the text to your message.
4. Review or edit the text, then send it when you are ready.

Your browser asks for microphone access the first time. If access is blocked, allow it from the site's controls in your browser and try again. The same dictation control is available in the [Daily Log quick entry](https://docs.specset.com/docs/daily-logs-and-photos#capture-the-day).

## Agent memory

The agent remembers how your team works across conversations. Save useful preferences and decisions as memories so the agent can use them in later chats.

- **Saved as you chat.** When you tell the agent something worth keeping ("always quote fire-rating requirements verbatim", "our submittal logs group by division"), it saves a memory and marks it with a chip in the conversation. You can inspect the saved memory from that chip.
- **Applied everywhere.** Memories load into every new conversation, org-wide or scoped to a single project.
- **Yours to manage.** Review, edit, and delete memories under **Org Settings → Memory** or **Project Settings → Memory**, including everything the agent saved on its own.
